Question #1:

Should I play Bass or Guitar?

I already learned how to play guitar id say im average. Today I went into a guitar store and started playing bass for like an hour, I didn't care if I was annoying anyone I loved it. Im kinda a shy guy and love steady riffs, and just being in the background. Should I start playing bass? What is your experience with bass? Bonus points for people who answer that played both.

Question #2:

Should I learn how to play the Guitar?

I'm 15/male/Mexican and I want to learn because it sound romantic .also what is the basic guitar for beginners and where do they sell em .I like the song sea of love(cat power) also any tips on which guitar to get. And the price of that guitar.....nah mean

Question #3:

What acoustic string gauge/brand should I buy?

If you've read my other question, disregard, this is a different one.

Over the holidays, I put some money together and finally got myself an acoustic guitar(I've been playing electric for 7+ years, but never really enjoyed acoustic, until I started learning acoustic songs and fell in love with it).

I bought a cheap "George Washburn Limited"(actually made by Washburn)Acoustic Guitar "Package"(Which included a Vintage Sunburst Acoustic Guitar, a gig bag, an extra set of strings, a guitar stand, an instructional DVD, a strap and a clip-on tuner) for $100. Even at such a low price mark, I love it, but there's a problem; The strings that came with it are incredibly cheap.

Every time I play, the strings leave a black residue on my fingers(No it is not rust from age, these strings are and look brand new), so I figured I'd buy better strings for it! Wait... What strings do I buy?

I've never had to buy acoustic strings, so I really have no clue what to look for. Should I buy strings that are the same gauge as the strings I use on electric? Or should I buy something a bit thicker/thinner?

I was thinking that since I use Ernie Ball Power Slinky(.011-.048) on my electrics, maybe I could get Ernie Ball Acoustic strings that are similar gauge to my Power Slinky. Would that make sense?

On a related note here, I'd like to add that I play mostly acoustic songs by Megadeth, Metallica, and so from one second to the next I go from slow paced chords to fast strumming, so if that helps...

Someone please enlighten me!!!

Question #7:

band, should i or not?

ok so my friend just asked me if i wanted to join his band but there are two main problems..

#1 i play guitar but haven't played in like 5 months so i suck right now and the other members of the band are good so i don't want to let them down by not being able to play the songs they want
avenged covers(second heartbeat/unholy confessions they have told me to learn)

#2 band practice costs money and i cant afford it cause i already spend more than i earn a week and is impossible to cut down my spending, i could ask my parents for the money but don't want to cause they give me allot already =(

what should i do? should i attempt the band and fail because i cant play or practice or should i just not even bother.
i have already tried to tell my friend that it wouldn't be good for me to join and that he should ask someone else instead but he insists that i should join >.< any tips on how i can solve this situation?

i don't normally ask questions on here but Just cant think what to do.. any tips would be good. ty

Question #8:

i can't concentrate on anything any more?

hi, i'm 13 and a girl, and recently, my memory has become really bad (i've already asked a question on here about this) but stuff seems to be getting worse. i can't concentrate in lessons, or at home. at school, being in high sets i'm expected to listen and pay attention, but i just can't concentrate of focus on anything. i constantly feel the need to talk to people. i find almost every lesson that i use to enjoy boring (maths, science, french, german, history, geography ect.) and the only lessons i still enjoy are drama, music, art and english (i've always loved these).
as for at home, i'm constantly listening to music to keep myself entertained. i've always been a musical person, and i would love to become good at an instrument. since a young age though, every time i've tried to learn an instrument, i've become bored of it. i've tried clarinet, violin, keyboard, drums and guitar, and i've always got pretty good at them, and then got bored.
this is like what's happening alot recently, i just can't focus on anything and become bored and get distracted very easily.
why could this be? and what could i do to stop it?
thank you for any answers in advance :)
oh yeah... i'm not sure if this is relevant... but i've been seeing things too xP
in case you're wondering, i saw a person with a black cape/cloak, and a couple of weeks later i saw my hamster on my pillow (it wasn't actually there... i think)...
don't worry, i wasn't high on either occasion :')

Question #10:

Does Rocksmith teach you how to play guitar?

I picked up guitar a few years ago. I couldn't afford lessons at the time, so I bought a few instructional DVDs. I just couldn't get it. I became so frustrated that I eventually gave up.
My guitar and amp now sit alongside one another in my closet collecting dust. And they've been collecting dust for well over a year.
I heard about Rocksmith and thought it was just another Guitar Hero wannabe. But then I found out that you actually plug a real guitar in and play it with an actual guitar.
I was excited about the possibility of using my guitar again, and maybe even finally learn how to play. But does Rocksmith actually teach you how to play, or is it just Guitar Hero with a real guitar?
@Jenny WTF is your problem? Are my feeling supposed to be hurt by your stupid, asinine comment? We'll they're not. You are probably just some fat a$$, ugly, video game addicted lesbian who likes to try and put others down, because her self esteem is so low.
Guess what??? FAIL!!!

I want to learn to play piano?

I am 14, turning 15 this coming April, and I want to learn how to play the piano. I have been playing the trumpet and guitar for 5 years now, so I am experienced in the art of music. I don't want to have to pay for lessons if I have to.

Is there a way that I can teach myself how to play the piano at my age? I want to learn how to play songs that require two hands like my friends do. I already own a piano, so that's covered. Please post a way that I can learn by myself how to play the piano. It could be a website (preferably), a book, etc. I want to learn as much as I can so I can just read piano music and I will be able to play it (after practice, of course).

I don't want to have to go to a place for lessons or get a teacher, just me teaching myself with whatever help you can offer. Thanks!

Question #18:

I'm confused about some terms relating to guitar?

I want to learn the major scale and it's modes. I've tried looking almost everywhere, but I STILL don't know what:

"tonic
supertonic — second scale degree (the scale degree immediately "above" the tonic);
mediant — third scale degree (the "middle" note of the tonic triad);
subdominant — fourth scale degree (a fifth "below" the tonic);
dominant — fifth scale degree (the most "pronounced" harmonic note after the tonic);
submediant — sixth scale degree (the "middle" note of the subdominant triad);
leading tone (or leading note) — seventh scale degree (the scale degree that "leads" to the tonic, this is also referred to as subtonic);
subtonic - also seventh scale degree, but applying to the lowered 7th found in the natural minor scale."

all of this means. I'm a very visual-spatial learner, so I can't just read something and get it, I need a diagram. Could anyone maybe write out what the scales would look like or at least dumb this down x99, because I am so lost.
